Powder Metal Blade Adapter

A true design on the back of a napkin, this blade adapter pulley assembly was designed by us to help the customer do two things: eliminate the assembly costs and cut out the cost of a zinc die cast shroud. This new one piece design, made of two parts sintered bonded together, was used in self propelled walk behind lawn mowers by the millions. The pulley was made and grooved here in one press, and the long blade adapter in another. The key in the blade adapter was milled to 3/4 length automatically at the press. Both parts were assembled at the sintering operation and sent to the customer.

Powder Metal Vise

Some years back, having lunch with the general manager of Wilton Tool, he jokingly asked about making an entire vise, front jaw, back jaw, and base plate, out of powdered metal. In the following weeks, we discussed a design that would work for him and for our big press. We came up with what he dubbed the "Import Fighter Vise" to compete with the castings from China. Made by us, dba Accu-Met in Ridgway, PA, these vises sold in Walmart, Tru Value, and Lowes all over the United States for years.
